Shimano Sora Groupset Review

Renowned for creating components for every cyclist, Shimano have created the Shimano Sora Groupset an ideal option for entry level riders. One of the best entry level groupsets, the Sora features Shimano original component designs that also feature functional upgrades.

Shimano Sora groupset includes Sora’s Dual-Pivot brake callipers. Created using durable aluminium, the Sora’s brake type is a Super SLR dual pivot allows maximum braking with the minimum amount of effort. Shimano’s exclusive Super SLR system is one of the most functional, durable and quickest releasing braking systems available to entry level cyclists today. The Sora groupset also features Shimano’s cassette sprocket. Compatible with IG chains, the sprockets of have been computer designed, to create Hyperglide (HG) alloy sprockets. The sprockets feature specifically positioned shift ramps and perfect tooth profiles for fast, smooth and quiet shifts.

The crankset for the Sora is available in Compact Double or Triple versions, both options for the Sora have a 2 piece construction and offer riders 9-speed cassette compatibility. More impressive is the cranksets bottom bracket, which includes sealed cartridges to ensure low maintenance. Front and Rear derailleurs are also included in the Sora groupset, the front derailleur is available to suit either double or triple cranks, with clamp-on and braze-on versions also available. The rear derailleurs are steel plated for durability, whilst also featuring Shimano’s pioneering Wide Link design for more precise and consistent shifting. Sora Dual Control Levers are also included within the groupset, which feature an ergonomic design for comfort, as well as an integrated optical gear display, enabling riders to monitor their gear ratios.

And lastly, the Sora groupset also features a super narrow chain for 9- speed, allowing quick transition between ratios, whilst also remaining low in weight. Overall, the Shimano Sora includes some advanced components, looks professional and is extremely durable and easy to use, making it a fantastic groupset for entry level riders.
